Dr. Yumeng Xi obtained his B.S. in chemistry from Peking University working in the laboratory of Prof. Zhen Yang and Prof. Jiahua Chen. He received his M.S. from West Virginia University where he worked on gold chemistry with Prof. Xiaodong Michael Shi. Yumeng pursued his graduate study in the group of Prof. John F. Hartwig (Wolf prize laureate, member of National Academy of Science). At Berkeley, his research focused on the mechanistically driven development of transition-metal catalysts to address challenges in the field of alkene hydrofunctionalization. After earning his Ph.D., he became a postdoctoral associate in the laboratory of Prof. Craig J. Hawker (member of National Academy of Science and of National Academy of Engineering) at UC Santa Barbara, working on controlled radical polymerization methodologies and the synthesis of novel bottlebrush materials. In January 2023, Yumeng joined the department of chemistry at NUS as an assistant professor.
